Foundation Programme

International Foundation for Medicine (IFM)
Joy Ong – Just graduated from IFM and now in her 1st year reading Medicine BSc (Hons)
How is your course structured?
The IFM is a specialized programme structured to equip students (who have or have not completed GCSE A levels) with worthwhile knowledge and skills to gain the upper hand upon entering the Medicine degree programme. It does so by incorporating biological sciences, clinical communication skills, medical ethics and group discussion among others into the curriculum. Fundamental subjects include English, Chemistry, and in some cases, Psychology.
The 3 best aspects
The first best aspect incidentally bears no academic relation at all. Being a relatively small group of people who have had a similar experience of having just moved away from home, everyone did everything together and soon we became a really close family that shared unforgettable, irreplaceable moments.
Another aspect I loved was the extensive support that the tutors provided. Not only did they provide advice on academic issues, they were genuinely concerned about our overall welfare.
I also liked the way the English Language Teaching (ELT) classes were conducted. They were discussion-based and held in sizeable groups.
Other important features/factors to note
The IFM is a course that I feel is suited for its targeted students. It is nonetheless quite intensive, and like all other courses, you’ll have to put in your fair share of hard work to be able to graduate.
